Tea and Wafers by Kitty Blandy

I saw Herringbone when it was produced at the Vancouver Playhouse in the early 1990s, performed by Morris Panych, and had the good fortune to meet Tom Cone a number of times while I was working at the New Play Centre (now known as Playwrights Theatre Centre) in Vancouver.  An ex-pat American, Tom struck me very much as a Canadian artist, equally passionate about art and Canada.  He was right at the heart of the scene wherever he was, and his enormous breadth of knowledge and interest seemed to touch all genres and practices.  A vigorous and prolific artist himself, Tom was also a powerful advocate for the arts, kind of a human generator for artistic energy.  He curated, cultivated, participated.  Check out this wonderful interview from the Capilano Review, recorded on Tom’s front porch in 2007.
